Given the favorable weather conditions and the calm sea, it is possible to go out casting your lures outside the reef belt that shelters this region, making it possible to clash with large tarpon, sharks, snook and many other predatory and coastal species that can surprise anyone who allows themselves to get to know this highly fishy region.

This is a fishing option that can be combined with fishing for adult and baby tarpon in the Mamanguape River, since this fishing is done at the mouth and coastal region of the Mamanguape River.

A fishing trip in a highly preserved setting

As an Environmental Preservation Area (APA) and indigenous territory, Barra de Mamanguape has a highly preserved setting.

It is a very beachy and remote region, with natural beauty that impresses everyone. Rarely do you see any sporting or recreational craft, apart from the rustic wooden canoes used by the riverside dwellers and indigenous populations for subsistence fishing.

There is also traffic from small local tourist boats that take people to see the manatees in the mangroves adjacent to the main river.

Near the mouth of the river there are a few restaurants, such as the Cacique Elias restaurant, which offers excellent fish and various types of fresh and delicious seafood.

Fishing in Barra de Mamanguape

Fishing is always done on board. We set out along the Mamanguape River very early in the morning, prioritizing the first casts during the first rays of sunlight, at daybreak, which gives us a better chance of catching fish.

The initial objective is to reach the reefs that delimit the mouth of the Mamanguape River. It is possible to catch fish both inside and outside the reefs.

Arriving at the mouth, the boat is positioned in the sheltered area inside the reefs, and the throws are directed towards the zone of breakers and wave foam.

When conditions are favorable and it is possible to go outside the mouth of the bar, inshore fishing is done along the entire reef from the outside, always casting close to the rocks and breakers.

Tidal dynamics

For this fishing trip to take place safely, it is essential to observe the dynamics of the tides and the phases of the moon, aiming for the period of the waning or rising quarter tide.
